Basic Conversions

Cubic Measure: 27 cubic ft. = 1 cubic yd
40 cubic ft. = 1 ton
Volume: 1 cubic cm = .061 cubic ins.
1 cubic in. = 16.39 cm
Long Measure: 3 ft. = 1 yd.
Square Measure: 9 sq. ft. = 1 sq. yd.

Approximate Weight Materials
1 cubic yd. 2A (Modified) → 3288 lbs
1 cubic yd. 2B (Clean) → 2738 lbs
1 cubic yd. Mason’s Sand → 3100 lbs
1 cubic yd. Concrete Sand → 3100 lbs
1 cubic yd. Dry common soil →
2215 lbs
NOTE: 1 Ton = 2000 lbs

Handy Base Info
1000 lbs of sand will cover approx. 100 sq. ft. with
a 1” depth.
1000 lbs of 2A modified will cover approx. 100 sq.
ft.
with a 1” depth.
Base Calculation Formula
Square ft. x base thickness / 27 x 1.4 = Tons of
materials
Value to enter for base thickness:
1” Sand
4” Base

Using the 3-4-5 Method
Most smaller projects can be squared using a framing
square or other small squares. When you are
building a larger project you need a technique to
make sure everything is square to the starting point.
The beauty of this method is that you can use inches,
feet, yards or any unit of measurement.
